Sad to see that this was the first and last EV from Inkling (RIP). A fun puzzle - the preamble repays extremely careful reading!

Totally agree with both points.

I am struggling with 2 clues, both of which I think are wordplay only.
Any help would be appreciated.

Am I the only one struggling with the endgame?? I've got the synonyms but can't find anything in the "heads" to help me progress, so can't get to the missing 3-letter word, and I'm assuming that's why I can't find the 11 cells identifying the source either.
So any pointers most gratefully received.

Hopefully you have all the 8 synonyms (all "very" similar pattern)
Take their 1st letters and anagram them.....then google...should give you the poem you need....
