Didn't make much progress so headed to 225 for enlightenment.
Still don't get
10a Renegade filibuster stripped of his external prize (3)
Ans rat given as [pi]rat[e] (filibuster, stripped of his external pie (prize))
I thought a filibuster was speaking at length to time out proposed legislation but leaving that aside , how does pie=prize?
20d 20. Fanciful charge for peeping Lords, at least (7) Ans given as
peerage -cryptic definition. I think the first bit refers to putting age on a wrod to mean the cost of e,g cartage. Lords are peers but where does "at least" fit in?

Hi Loubyloo,
A filibuster is a pirate (historical use). Chambers has PIE as “A welcome luxury, prize, or spoil”, so this works though very tricky imho.
A peer is at least a Lord and may be anything from a baron up I believe, hence ‘at least’.
I must say I didn’t like either clue.

Pie = prize as it's a recognised definition! It's in Chambers The first definition of Filibuster is Pirate, again in Chambers.

Thanks both -never heard of a prize being a pie and can't think of a way that would work with it.
E.g Raffle tickets -first prize £25 gift voucher would not be first pie £25 gift voucher.
If you work hard , the prize is 3 A*s .
He was a prize idiot
He was awarded a nobel prize.
