Hi all,
Clue 3Down A Gaoler (4)
I do not expect the clues to be cryptic.
The answer I have got by solving all the crossing clues is ADAM.
I can see no connnection between my answer and the clue.
Is anyone out there able to enlighten me?

You need to read some Shakespeare.

Chambershas 'gaoler' as one definition of Adam.

I find Chambers a more interesting read than Shakespeare!

You are right Jordan - my Shakespeare is almost non existant, and what there is is rusty. Must do better.
I really must get a copy of Chambers, I will put it on my Christmas present wanted list. Thank you Malone.

Glad we could help, Richard. I'd struggle with many crosswords if I didn't have Chambers, and it's good for the occasional borwse too!
