A thoroughly enjoyable anniversary offering from proXimal. Referencing two former compilers in the corners and the current EV editor in the completed grid was a nice touch.

Nice variant on 'Eightsome Reels' with quite a tricky finish. It was only after working out the messages that 16/21/26 yielded to a bit of reverse engineering.

I'm probably being dim but I can't work out '12 corners'. 4 are obvious but what are the other 8 the corners of???

Granama, I think you may have misread it? My paper copy says 'the twelve corner cells...' - three at each corner, and gives two x 6-letter words, confirming the total.

The 12 corner cells are the 12 unches in a normal Eightsome Reels. In this puzzle some of them are checked, but if they had been left out the 2 names wouldn't have appeared.

Thanks Malone and Cockie. As I thought, I was probably being a bit dim - and distracted by the various square formations in the grid structure.

Good puzzle though. The weekend has been rather good with the Listener, Inquisitor and EV. (Spectator didn't take very long but was quite pleasant 😊)
