Please will someone explain the answer to 14 a for me.
I think it is LIL ABNER and while I know that this
is a cartoon strip I do not understand what it has to do with a ship's welcoming party.

Clue is 3,5 Ship's welcoming party to make you strip.

LI-LAB-NER: Ship = Liner, welcoming LAB = party

LINER = ship, LAB = party (as in Lab Party), strip = cartoon strip/strip cartoon
