SimpleSimon@19, are you sure that works? There seems to be an extra “e”. Forgive me if I’ve got it wrong :-)

Thanks Buddy, mea culpa! I was trying to make “this” (manoeuvre) + “is” into an anagram of “Russian move” which almost works.
Apologies SS

Thanks to all who have entered the 600th Clueless. I hope my `English` spelling has not threatened our special relationship with North America - I confess it`s a word I have to check I`ve spelled correctly! I`m really enjoying reading all your clues and face a difficult task picking the winner!
Still time to submit entries - I think the following is the first `Clueless` from 2011. Pastille was the setter - the only name I recognise is Peterm ...

I hope you are waiting with bated breath...

Our weekly fun competition.

The idea is to construct a cryptic clue to a given word. The winner of the previous week’s competition sets the word to be clued and judges the entries. A one-day time-frame is in place, (longer than this would be very difficult to cope with). The judge's decision is final (reasons given or not). It is customary for the judge to donate a virtual prize to the winner.

The Clueless 10 word is: TMESIS (6)

Clues to be submitted before 17:30 BST tomorrow (Wed 1st July)

Results soon after...maybe, or I might take a while, who knows?

Best of luck,and have fun!

Kissypoos,

p@

Many thanks to all who participated - I enjoyed your Machiavellian machinations! Chrise@2 set the early pace with a nice anagram while Fieryjack`s @13 & @16 subtractives also made the shortlist. I liked Mattrom`s topical, football related @14 and Paul`s apt portrayal of Michael Gove @18. I`m pleased Jono@7 & Buddy@12 used `Oeuvres` in their clues - it was why I preferred the English spelling.

Third place goes to Bbm2@17 - I hoped someone would attempt a homophone!
Second place goes to Simplesimon`s excellent subtractive anagram @19

First place goes to Buddy@15 with the cleverly constructed ...
Nadal's hand seen when return of serve is stopped by umpire's initial tactics (10)

Well done Buddy! Your prize is Blackadder on manoeuvres ...

Bonus musical prize is inspired by Jono@7 - OMITD ...

Thanks Tyke.

Well done Buddy, great clue.

Jono, no problem, always worth checking the parsing.
We weren’t too happy with the surface ourselves.

Well done, Buddy - especially for managing to construct a clue without an anagram.
Thanks, Tyke, for the challenge, the mention, and the clips.
