Can anyone explain to me what the answer to 11 has to with the wordplay. I can't see the slightest connection.

Hi Aspira,

Have you ever seen the Harry Enfield character Kevin?

I think just Paul having a bit of a laugh:-)

Another enjoyable puzzle from Paul.
Perhaps a bit of a theme with lots of u-turns, and 24, 22 and 16, 10?
FOI 2
COD 11
LOI 24, 22 and struggling to parse this, along with 9 and the second half of 13, 6.

Hi Pauly,

24,22 - 3 letter "dog" then the rest is an anagram (including single letter "duck")

9a - 5 letter "unpopular" reversed/"revolutionary" around single letter "cape" - definition is "separate"

13,6 - 5 letter "serious" then the rest is all anagram/"rubbish"

Hope that helps

Thanks Aspira, it is funny - that's part of the joy of crosswords, they remind you of great memories or prompt you to create new ones:-)

Like some previous posters it took me a while to make progress on Paul's challenge today.
FOI 2 then slow progress until I cracked 14,8,22a which helped a lot. As usual some great cluing from Paul, loved 17 and 11 but will plump for 3 as my COD which was also LOI - the answer was obvious from the crossers but the penny wouldn't drop until an image of a former football manager popped into my head - I chuckled, simple but brilliant Paul.
Thanks all.

i've got 3 parsing problems (i may have the answers wrong!)
12a how does charter give the last 4 letters?
24,22 i don't see the duck, and i have a c unaccounted for
13,9 i've only parsed the first 5 letters

About three years ago, I started to go off Paul's puzzles as the surfaces of his clues became ever more convoluted and I found myself often just guessing the answers and trying to retrofit them to the clues. However, I have to say that I really enjoyed this one which seemed more like his old self. As others have said, 3d is a great clue.
