I solved the puzzle. I have all of the substitutions, and I recognize what the set is that these things belong to. I also have the extra letters and it is obvious to me what the missing letter is. However, I just don't understand how the set of 8 relates the the named person! I am British born, from a British family but lived most of my life elsewhere so I am missing the cultural knowledge, I guess. I certainly know of the named person, though, and I thought if I googled that person and the themed set of 8 I would get an explanation - but alas nothing!
