Here is my second (and I think final) attempt at creating a crossword mostly from winning Clueless/Peer Review clues. This time I tried a 12x12 Mephisto/Azed style barred grid which was surprisingly easier to fill than the 15x15 from last week.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BnGPQxE2cFSFDT6IVEZXznoGh-qlK1xs/view?usp=sharing

Notes:

1) As with last week's I got stuck in the corners and had to write a few clues to get free; unlike last time these clues are not indicated and (in my opinion) not all are write-ins. Fans of symmetric grids will not be pleased.

2) In a few cases I used the second-place clue rather than the winner, for no other reason than I preferred that clue.

3) Note the instructions; in particular note that 28D is clued with an extra letter in the wordplay.

4) 16A is for every time I have had to Google some cricketer to answer a very British clue.

As before I will post a solution with setters' identities on Thursday.

Thanks, Buddy, I enjoyed that, and particularly liked a couple of the clues for shorter answers. I think there was only one clue that gave me a 'h'mm?' moment (and that's often just personal taste anyway!)

Thanks Buddy, nicely constructed and good fun. Even the one or two which I recalled still had me scratching my head. 8d was new to me, 28d was LOI and as you predicted I had to Google Tom Brady!

Thanks, buddy. Haven't had a chance to work it yet, but thanks for the very American 16a. (I finally remember leg = on though.)

Thanks, buddy. Had to sleuth out 39, the first word of 8, and 28 (answer clear but didn't understand the extra letter stip).

Thanks Buddy, really enjoying this - I got 16a fairly quickly but there's a few others that are proving a more challenging:-)

Thanks again, buddy boy. I had to use the anagram solver for 1d, as it was a word I'd never seen before. Also had to go to the website you indicated for 8d. I've seen the phenomenon demonstrated, but didn't know the name. I was amused to see the reappearance of the dreaded iota. Had trouble with 28d, even though I think I wrote it. 🤷‍♀️
LOI 39a; I kept overlooking the obvious.
