Mete, I forget the definitions, but I think I looked them up! It sounds like Meet, an intensive search, fox hunt etc.

I think I will go with HETE. Sounds like heat and after a trawl through Chambers I find it can mean command if spelled HIGHT

Other than this a great puzzle for me.
