Here’s what we have, which I think is pretty good…

A - avoid
B - bless, bout
C - cleft
D - nod, dismissing, dejected, awayday
E - ego, eloped
F - floss
G - gout, glossy
H - homeless
I - selflessly, non-current
J - jousted, jaywalking
K - OK
L - lout
M - mistaken
N - taken off
O - loveless
P - disquiet
Q - Q-tipped
R - runaway, goner, riverless, rejected
S - slacking, slopes, squit, squash
T - not, toff, taxed, timeout
U - unary
V - vex, vexed
W - wassail, waxed
X - bygone
Y - lefty
Z - sleepless, nosy (homophone)

For good measure how about N = forsake n ?

I like it , Quisling, the ones that don’t begin with the letter to be removed are somehow more satisfying I think

I don’t disagree. I wasn’t sure to what extent you permitted letters as abbreviations. “Queen sacrifice”, for example, for Q

How about cough (homophone) for k ?

Or simply koff (a Dutch sailing vessel) !

This is all far too complicated for me but thanks, Jono, for providing a very quiet mid-week with a bit of a diversion.

Perhaps a few of you would like to take it in turns to post something to amuse our Members, say on Monday with closure by late PM Thursday.

Are iced and killed not used in crossword deletion indicators ?
