I'm sure the Readership answer is correct, but it's not much of a clue (just a long definition!)

thank you Malone, I don't know why I didn't get brain teaser, you have both given me great answers that I have no doubt are correct - I typed the clues as they were typed - sorry they were so awkward

i see what you mean about readership, malone - it's just a verbose cryptic definition.

Mysteriousgirl, glad we could help. The RTE clues have been described as 'quirky' at times, though 'pretty poor' is sometimes just as accurate!
