The Spoonerism is very good - when you read it after the Spoonerism bit has been done, it's the C???? that contains the root (first word) + D# and F#.

Hi all.
Yes, definitely trickier than usual.
There are two connected clues but they don’t rhyme x look at the two long downs.
16d - the D sharp and F sharp notes are parts of the spooner answer. It is a music term.
I cannot explain 21a satisfactorily either.
Everyman has done something like the part initial clue before.

Yes tricky one. 27a was the one that got me the rest I managed to figure out. A tough one but nothing wrong some good clueing. 19a was another excellent clue.

Very much enjoyed this, but had another brain to help me - did it with my OH!

Favourites were 1,7.8, 19 and 21. Also thought the spoonerism was a clever clue, but had to guess the answer (thanks to the crossers) before being able to parse it.

I also don't get the problem with the primary letters clue. Seems ok to me?

I cannot see the relevance of "cockney" in the 3d clue. Is there supposed to be a rhyming slang connection? Can anyone give me a hint.

Does 27a require a bit of computer knowledge about the word "tab" or am I completely barking up the wrong tree?

I found the "first letters" clue unusual for Everyman because it a) doesn't use the indicator "primarily" and b) contains more non-"first letters" words than usual.

Hi Coffindodger,

3d - it's a 4 letter word for "cast" (as in 'throw') but pronounced without the H - the usual cockney trope:-(

27a - Yes, the 2nd word is where you might find a tab

I think there's a bit of confusion regarding the initial letters clues.

There's one in the top half that follows all the proper steps and I thought the clue below it was also one but, looking at it again, it's an acronym followed by a 3 letter initials.

Correct, Brendan (and others), my bad...I missed the traditional "first letters" clue in the top half. 😳
