My grandfather died of mania in an asylum aged only 40 The prison spells (with hard labour even though he was physically ill as well as the rest) were for theft and GBH. I feel very sorry for him. My mother knew nothing of any of it.
I have tried to trace people who disappeared, never with success. If they moved and changed their name, I suspect it's nearly impossible. How old was he? Could he have gone to, say, India?

Rosalind, thanks for starting a new @jazzgirl thread rather than continuing the discussion in my Personal Chats thread, much appreciated.

Not too difficult to vanish in Canada then, I would think. No DNA matches, I imagine?

Hi rosalind
I replied to your Masterchef question on Norah's thread. This was it:

No, Gareth was the weakest link, though I expected the actor (whose name can't remember) would have been.
I was rather sorry that Chris Eubank was knocked out earlier. It might be revealing my prejudices, but I found him incredibly articulate and well-spoken, and also imaginative with his cooking.

btw to clarify, my prejudice is against boxers, not "people of colour". I detest the "sport".

Yes, Gareth was weakest but I liked him! Bavette steak not the best idea. My daughter-in-law cooked me the most delicious beef (birthday treat) last night. Cliff (the actor) is the surprise.

I don't like boxing, either, but it had provided some very disadvantaged people a way out of poverty and a pride in themselves.
