Chris was out of the gate with his usual fast start. I picture Chris sitting in front of his computer screen, finger poised, thinking "when is Clueless (or PR/WPR) going to be posted?" 😆 But a very relevant entry it was. I had never heard of "lacy hips", and all sorts of images sprout from it, but Chris and Jon apparently know all about them. Jon was first to tackle both words at once, and his 5 with "dance" made a striking improvement over 4. Fiery Jack was looking at Clay's hip - unknown whether or not they are lacy. Mattrom got us out of anatomy class with a clever and topical subtractive anagram. Paul was next with a flurry of entries, including many anagrams. I confess that if 13 was meant to be a math(s) clue, I didn't get it. Buddy popped up with two great hiddens; I particularly thought the one for "physical" was quite the accomplishment. Tyke was the last contestant to weigh in, with another double clue. Well done, all. I especially appreciated the efforts to reference the iconic thematic person.
A close race it was indeed, with a photo finish. We had Mattrom @8 to show, (great surface of course), Buddy @18 to place (amazing hidden), and for the win, just by a whisker, Jono @5 for the win with:
1. Herein, Olivia agrees to dance… (6)
2. …with her lacy hips in action? (8)
The first clue is as good as a surface gets, and the "lacy hips" doesn't distract from the use of action as anagram indicator and definition.
Congratulations, Jon. Here are your (no doubt, expected) prizes:
