Ah ok, yeah I remember that.

I usually do it online and only really check the thread if I am missing one or two and anyway I usually have all the crossers so I can use the Quick Solve feature on this site if I am desperate. I usually read the thread to get the parsing of ones I miss and then once all is parsed I help other people out.

I do the crossword online mostly and you can't enter the prize there either I think.

It's just a dictionary prize is it not?

4d: It's not a slang word, and was my first one in (it's an anagram)
14a: 4 letter "7" containing 5 letter "order"

4d is an anagram of two words in the clue
14a is 5 letter word for ‘order’ inside a four letter 7

Hi Mikey,

4d - definition is "developing bird" - an anagram.

14a - 4 letter 7 around/parts "order" - definition is "damaging"

Just to be clear, my question a couple of weeks ago was just relating to the "if you get stuck" section that I used to include:-)

Brendan, I have no objections to including hints.
I solve the puzzles online and have never (even in bygone hard copy days) entered the contest. No disrespect, but for sporting reasons I usually skip over the hint section anyway.

There was a recent episode on this forum (spilled over from AnswerBank) in which a poster solicited assistance pertaining to a highly lucrative prize contest, without identifying the puzzle (iirc). That was not cricket IMO. 🤣

Hi Everyone
Started after late lunch as usual after tackling yet another difficult quick crossword. Oh good, Paul I said and I started very well, quickly getting 17ac, which led to 7d and a subject I'm quite keen on. Would you drink tea out of anything else?

I've done about two thirds but come to a grinding halt. I spotted the Day in 21d, but can't get the perfume even after googling what I thought might be the answer.

Thanks for the hint on 27ac. I haven't been able to solve 19ac or 26ac amongst others. For 19ac I have ?A???N?o? (small letters mean I'm not sure about them)
and for 26ac I have ?H?n???L??
Please can I have some hints.
So far FOI was 10ac closely followed by 17ac
Brendan I vaguely remember you asking about hints now it was a prize. I like your hints and never send it in. The prize is naff anyway.
Glad to see you back this week.
