That was meant to be "surrounded by ..." and then I wrote in the brackets with "i" inside" but they didn't come out which, now I think of it, makes sense.

Only just started this so only a few clues in so far. But is 10a actually a thing? I may have the wrong answer because I don't get the sorry part.

10a - it's not in Chambers but I did find it in an online dictionary.

On the easier side I thought. The long ones went in early. I confidently put another three letter acronym in for 19a which I think works just as well as the intended answer and that held me up. I also know an old writer that fits with all but one of the crossers in 12a which I spent far too long trying to make work!

Brendan, on your question, I agree that as this is a prize, nudges when asked for may be preferable to unsolicited hints.

10a is in the ODE, so Hugh would have allowed it

I think that I have my last one - 2D - but no idea on the parsing. My crossers are -E-A-R. ???

2d - your letters are correct - definition is "darn" and first 2 letters are "skirts in rage"

Ah! Thanks Brendan. I was taking the definition as the first four words.

thanks for the hint on 19d. i may make more progress now i've corrected my spelling of 24a! (i had the h in the wrong place...)
