Given the lack of queries on this it looks like I'm the only one who hasn't understood the endgame - is it in the original language?

I can't work out the meaning of "give the fate of the first and last of the line" and the more I read the less sense it makes.

I know what the first and last lines are but that doesn't seem to be helping!

OMG! I've just seen 2a - Unbelievable! I've been staring at it for over an hour and see within 2 secs of posting!

... and now I've got 43a - amazing how that "post post inspiration" keeps happening!

Good Morning, Brendan. I've just finished an other enjoyable puzzle from Chalicea. Thanks to Shirley. The last bit is in translation, but the extra letters are in the original title.

Thanks BC,

I got the A H.. Y... bit pretty much straight away so it was just the gaps in the top and bottom rows that had me stumped but there light dawned literally within 2 seconds of posting my tale of woes 😁

Now to try and make sense of the EV endgame - I have both sets of instructions from the extras letters but I'm obviously both seeing what everyone else is 🤔

Brendan, the EV thread contains very helpful information - worth reading if you get totally stuck.

PS I assume you have your colouring materials all ready, lined up?

This was a real pleasure on Saturday, I polished it off in a few hours. Except! I have an empty cell in the middle of 24a with no clue what is going on. And I have an N yielded up by correcting definition of 2d which isn't required by the word in the title. Any help to clear up welcome.
I am also way short of full grid on Listener 4721 so will be begging for help there shortly.

Hi Lumen,

24a - I was left with exactly the same empty square but if you scroll down to the bottom of one of the 2 possibilities in Chambers, you'll see one is also a contraction/alternate spelling of a 4 letter word - if you look that up you'll see the "chase" reference.

.... there's no N in 2d either in the amended definition or the answer.
