Theatreland is an anagram of “and later than”, and mint could mean anagram, perhaps, but I don’t understand the East connection or the geography, so it’s almost certainly wrong

I had thought Whitechapel too. It is east of Aldgate and home of the original Royal Mint, but I don’t understand “later”.
Intrigued by Quisling’s anagram though…

It seems to me that 'East' should be in either the question or in the answer. So far nothing I've come up with follows this 'rule' !
