MerryPhil, I was happy to meet such an interesting new word - though it looks more like a missing dinosaur to me!

Yuk. Well that word guaranteed that I would never be able to finish this crossword without cheating.

It crops up every few years as an entry method in the Listener, eg 4103 and 4021, and EV, eg 675 and 580. Not exactly everyday, I grant you!

I have a barrister friend who enjoys wagering on his ability to work unusual words into his arguments - this might be a bit of a challenge

Another word so rare most people have never used it, I needed all the crossing letters before I could make a stab at it:

One man's 'so rare' is one woman's 'seen this often, seen the abbreviation even more often.' I'm sure there are many, many words that are known to some, unknown to others - I like crosswords as they introduce me to the new ones....
