I've finished this plus all the thematic stuff but am still stuck on 1a and 2d.

The obvious answer to 2d surely contains an A in addition to the letter I've already removed, which I think is right.

Ia is tough for obvious reasons. Which part is the def? The final two words I'd say. One letter is removed I think.

1a skips letters across the first two words (it requires 3x the letter dropped).
2d loses 3x too - but no 'a' involved.

The Ace of Hearts strikes again. I was ready to be grumpy about non-words but it proved to be a fair contest and the resolution of the clashes was unambiguous. Thanks again, Ace!

I have AN?H?R?E and I know what the extra letter is but I can't find anything in Chambers that remotely resembles a possible definition?

A word for one more followed by that is

The Australian for one more

This has to be the laziest slang expression ever in terms of invention - probably came about after too many tubes at the barbie.

Thanks Jadzia, I'd considered that because of the "flower part" = ANTHER + I + E(xamine) but I can't find any source that says the word exists - In which dictionary is it?
