Am I being dense? The only gap in my grid is 22a and as I'm sure of the crossers I'm not sure why I've been staring at it for hours - any help appreciated!

Hi, roof. For 11 "plug" r for right into a word that means to please. 6 starts with yes in German, and ends with a 4-letter river.

Roof. You will almost certainly have heard of the particular 7 the theme refers to. Not necessarily all the 'creations'. Without spoilers it's tough to say more. Think slightly off the wall and kids.

I was surprised at all the posts on here indicating unfamiliarity with the 7 of the theme, although I do agree with spiny norman that the last name being omitted is a big flaw of the puzzle. I would guess that you would be hard pressed to find an American who did not grow up with at least the most familiar of his works. It seems he's nowhere near as popular in the UK.

For those not familiar, I think 18 is the key. The wordplay is straightforward enough, and the title is unusual enough to immediately pinpoint its creator, whether or not you have to search it. 18 was my first thematic entry.

it's very american. i said earlier, in the uk we have beatrix potter and winnie-the-pooh, you probably know the latter because of disney, but are you familiar with the former?

I think Beatrix Potter is fairly well known over here, and I grew up on Pooh and the gang, as did the majority of my compatriots I would guess.
