Early finishers, may I have pointer towards the endgame please?

All done, except that I cannot parse 14 across. All its letters are checked, so maybe it does not matter, but for the sake of completeness, I would like to know how it works. A hint would be appreciated.

Good to be back in the Forum after the access problems. I really missed it yesterday as I am wholly at sea. I want to respect the spirit of this thread but desperately need help.

Is the 11 word down in the second column a species that if it arrived off my Norfolk sandbank would have lost its way by a long distance?

I have filled the gird other than the double clues. I have the first pair and the last pair (the boy done good) but cannot see where or how they fit. Early days but any hep welcome. Am dreadfully stuck
