Help:
The clue 4 down is:
It’s almost because of this pair (4)
The answer is « just » which I can see corresponds to almost but can’t see the rest of the wordplay.
Any ideas.

I'm assuming the crossers are the "u" and "t"; if so might the answer be duet (pair); due t(o) ?
