Callme..,

Stable - "completely" forms part of the definition - this clue is an anagram/"rebuilt" but remember there is an extra letter produced by wordplay so look at what parts of the clue lead to 11 letters and then take turns removing one letter and anagramming the others.

Ah easy done. There’s a lot going on eh.

But it was helpful to read that there’s no short cut here with the anagrams I.e. remove one letter at a time.

Thanks and yes, there's sometimes no substitute to plain old trial and error.

Lovely puzzle, but just one query.

Inflict heavy defeat on Harry Little retreating after struggle for ball (6)

I have a solution that is often jokingly receded by "mad", but am struggling to justify the definition.

In response to callmeishmael's query about a versatile anagram solver. I have been using TEA crossword helper for donkeys' years. I bought it on a CD and have installed it on a few laptops over the years. It's excellent but not sure if it's still available.

And callmeishmael DID choose a tricky one to get started with the Inquisitor!!

Bobby... the Chambers definition of my answer is 'to inflict a severe defeat on'. I'd never encountered the word, in either of its spellings, before.
