2d Here skiing challenge has an extra round (8). I think the answer is Aviemore but can't quite parse it?

Hi Bassett,

It looks like - 'an extra' = A MORE (goes) "round" VIE 'challenge'

The L in UNCLE is replaced by HAS T.

I don't much like L defined as a bit of lunch, meaning the first letter.

12d Clamour to play with Haydn, in this state? (4,8)
A: Dual Monarchy.
I can see the anagram but not the definition.

18d Stretch of land without a green? Keep out of it (2-2,4)
A: No-go area.
I can see the definition but can't parse it.

A dual monarchy is a state with two equal monarchs, as, for example, we were during the reign of William and Mary in the late 1600s.

GO for green as in traffic lights? No-go thus wouldn't have a green. Not convinced.

Perhaps the intended reference in the first one is to the rule of Austria-Hungary around the time of Haydn under the Habsburgs, making it an extended definition. I could be wrong
