SimpleSimon, in case you don’t know, if you do a search here on the site for “Clueless” you will see two lists, A-L and M-Z, maintained by Mattrom, which contain all the words that have previously been used… so as to avoid setting a word which has been used before.

Buddy. Finally got the mathematical link. My maths degree is over 55 + years ago. Whilst I always complete the Listener numerical and subscribe to Magpie and CrossNumbers, I’ll leave Mr Beal well alone.

Bravo simplesimon, a well deserved maiden victory. Magpie numericals do my head in, regular as clockwork, once a month. I really need to sharpen up my maths skills (A-level only, but (just) < 55 yrs!).

Thanks Paul. The “ we” of SimpleSimon is actually me (Chris) and my wife (Sue). We solve together, but I compile clues alone, which is strange as when solving, I work top down and she works bottom up and is a meticulous parser who keeps extensive records. Working on a stinker with an IQ setter at present- watch this space.
