I'm stuck on 2 clues from an old Telegraph 50-50:

Guessing the a is the a and I is 'keeping one' but can't get anything else.

23A Spread out and almost pass behind (6)

?I?A?E

Totally stuck!

23 Dilate, spread out - almost Die Late, almost pass behind.

15 Rational. Rat On A L, betray a student, with an I inside, keeping one.
