Can anybody please help with 23D from last Saturday's non-cryptic Times Jumbo.

Inferior quality; poor taste (8)
?A?F?E?S

The only plausible answer offered by Quick Solve is HALFNESS. I cannot find the word in any dictionary and the definition given by Crossword Solver -- "The quality of being half; incompleteness." -- does not seem to match the clue.

Naffness We usually just see naff, tasteless, but I suppose the noun is fine.
