I've run into a problem with these two intersecting clues:-

NB Wordplay leads to the answer with an extra letter.

24d - Letter confused shy sea nymph (6)

This seems to be 4 letter "letter" for which I have a Hebrew + 3 letter anagram of "shy" with H extra, either coming from the 'S(h)Y or the last letter of the Hebrew letter - definition is "sea nymph"

37a - Revs use the short tatty old-fashioned robes (8)

This looks like a straight anagram with the H in "the" extra - definition is "old-fashioned robes"

My problem is that these intersect at the penultimate letter but 24d seems to end YS while 37a ends ES?

I have a full grid, and identified the author and quotation. My problem is that I can highlight ten cells for a cryptic representation of a five-word phrase, or eleven cells for a representation of seven words. But I can't see an eleven-cell representation of just five words. What am I missing?
