Excellent puzzle from Kruger. Tough but rigorous cluing with the great merit of amended entries all being real words. A neat twist for the endgame, too.

Yes, a very enjoyable puzzle. I thought Brendan would be delighted to follow the instructions...

PS Isn't 'cluing' an unattractive-looking word?

I agree, most enjoyable but I can't fathom the parsing of 8d despite the answer being obvious ...

8d - To produce offspring, prince’s given up being sheathed (6)

Malone @ 2, you are right about “cluing”. It should have had an entry in “The Meaning of Liff”. Something like: “Cluing (pr. “Kloong”) The dents and scrapes on the rear quarters of a family car whose driver has never mastered the art of parallel parking.”

Would that do?

JackAubrey, above, thanks for your proposed definition/entry for the inelegant word. That looks fine, but it does, of course, render the earlier post nonsensical.

As some words, real/ proper words, can be ugly, I tend to shun them and look for more attractive alternatives. This philosophy works very well in many aspects of life.

Lovely puzzle, especially pleasing that the final grid is without gibberish. And am I seeing a trend developing over the last couple of weeks? 😅

Thanks to kruger for a very enjoyable puzzle. I wanted portray the F??? as accurately as possible so, for the gold colour, I first used a yellow marker pen and then, while the ink was still wet, went over it with orange - the end result turned out much better than expected, even if I do say so myself 😃
