Drama, play. A= area after Dram, tot (drink, not child).

Thanks malone; I'd mistakenly put TOASTER instead of TOASTED for 6d so no wonder I couldn't see DRAMA.

21 Ac. only works if Dickey spelling used. Impossible if more usual spelling Dickie employed. Took a while to figure this outs!

The Dickey spelling is the one given in Chambers for Dickey Bow. I'm not sure that I'd say 'dickie' was the usual spelling - Chambers lists them as Dickey, dicky and dickie, which seems to suggest that 'dickey' is regarded as the most common, usual.

Reminds me of a former teaching colleague, Dan Dickey, at a school with some boarders. A rather nervous new boy, feeling rather sick, was sent by Dan from class back to his boarding house.

The housemistress asked the boy, "Who sent you?"

"I don't know his name," blushed the boy, "but the boys call him Mr Dickey."

True story.

Dan was quite a character and saw 2nd World War service in Lancaster bombers.
