A high quality contest, with many all the offerings worthy of mention in a comprehensive summing up. I hope I’ve got all the number references right!

The word(s) obviously lent themselves well to charades, as there were plenty of good ones: jono @8 & 23, buddy @12 & 20, paul @13, mprs @21, tyke51 @27, buddy @35. I never did manage to fully parse bbm2’s otherwise very clever @25.

There were a couple of nice anagrams / subtractives: chrise @2, paul @11, buddy @9, penda @34, and containers: mattrom @3 & 17, mprs @5, paul @14 & 15 (the banking reference did not go unnoticed, paul, thanks!). A special mention to jono @7… always nice to get another contributor into a clue!

Other good ones were buddy’s double def. @26 and jono’s substitution @22 (additional ‘s’ permitted!). Only one contributor took up the gauntlet of the unnamed 8-letter derivative: thanks buddy @20! It makes my shortlist, along with mprs @21, jono @22 and buddy @35 but the winner, probably benefitting from a little professional bias, is paul @15 … simple, but a very smooth surface (even if it hasn’t been true much over the last few years!)

Pound quickly gains support (7)

Congratulations, paul! Here are your prizes … all clips guaranteed completely suitable for minors!
