Thank you son1ofrover1. This is the answer that I had which gives me a two letter word in the perimeter which I can’t confirm so I must have made a mistake somewhere else.
Back to the drawing board!

Puzzledom, I thought that initially. it is not a 2 letter word but an entry of 2 words split 7 - 4.

Thank you alwayspuzzled, it’s been driving me nuts. I’ve actually got all the correct letters in the correct order but managed to convince myself the split was 2 - 5 - 4.

I'm obviously being really dense - I have everything completed including the messages from the extra and missing letters, the perimeter and shaded cells but no idea what to putt in the central square.

As far as I can see their W... L... is just a couple of l...... - what am I missing?

.... or is the L??? what goes in the central box?

Brendan, I've got the L??? , my version of it, in the central box - that's what the preamble appears to indicate. You, of course, might opt to use colour...
