15 A. The definition is 'to be an un umpire' (non -sporting). The large body of water often appears in crosswords, followed by 'one' and a simple 'swallowed'.

Is that a relative of the a French 'un' that confused me in !2A?

Bees, I haven't seen the puzzle so I don't know about 12 A. In your query, I wasn't sure if the fourth letter was 'i' or 'l' - they sometimes look identical on this Forum!
