I am originally from Belgian, but the language spoken in Flanders and the Netherlands is called Dutch (Nederlands). Flemish is more like dialect of Dutch, although there are many dialects within Flemish, so I'm not sue if there's a more appropriate linguistic word for that level of the hierarchy. I now live just across the Belgian border in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Thanks, bigblind. Maybe I have overestimated the desire of non-francophone Belgians not to be associated with Dutch. I am glad you all seem to be good friends!

There are people who feel that way, but not me :). I also don't feel particularly patriotic, neither as a Flemish person, nor as a Belgian, but I do like the Dutch language.

I think being "patriotic" of Flanders has kinda been ruined by the separatist movement, who'd want to be more independent from Wallonia, which I don't support. (and that's all I'm gonna say here about politics).
