I can find two words that fit GANDER and GINGER but they don’t relate to the clue. Been driving me crazy for days!

The clue was:

Red warbler leaving sierra for good (6)

The answer is GINGER. Singer (warbler) replacing the S (sierra) with G (good)

As suggested, a quicker answer if you give the clue!

Ginger as in red-haired, of course
