PARSING HELP PLEASE

Hi all - I've finished the puzzle but it had some tough wordplay, all of which I finally understood except for this one (which is probably going to be embarrassingly straightforward!):

Sculptor's letter to Gertrude E?S?E?N

Probably (Jacob) Epstein, and possibly a reference to Gertrude Stein - but if so how does the EP fit in?

I believe Ep. is an abbreviation for Epistle, letter, used in the Bible. Also Epis.

My Bradford's Crossword Dictionary has 'Ep(isemon)' under letter.

Malone, you’re right. Just double-checked Episemon in Chambers and it’s one of three obsolete Greek letters. Never heard of it before.
Quisling, I considered Ep for Epistle but it seems a bit of a stretch from a bible book abbrev., even though we use epistle for letter sometimes.

Thank you both.

Thanks, Deslyxic. My Bradford's was to hand, Chambers wasn't - so I didn't investigate further!
