There are 2 extra letters in 1 word of the clue wordplay, please help:-
(34a) Flounder - short white fish brought from west to east (6)

It's WALLOP (defined in Chambers as to flounder). Wordplay is WA(n) + reverse POLL (old word for a type of cod). Only some of the across clues have a pair of extra letters and I don't think this was one of them.

This was doing my head in! FLOUNDER = wallop or wallow, then WALLOP = w(HIT)e! Grrrr

There's another way of arriving at the answer (but without the neatness of loge's) polla[n] is a 'whitefish' and it could travel east to (meet) W.

...it doesn't quite get there (but that's how I did it).

Is the fish not travelling from East to West in these parsings?
