14a - L 'student' IN 'happening'/fashionable GO 'to pass' LINGO

7a - TACIT anagram

16a - DEFOE [fed backwards (over), then OE (Old English) for Anglo Saxon … I think!]

8d - could be LEO if it’s 3 letters

3d - STAR [seafront is S, followed by TAR]

Clue for 8d is ... Maybe Italian cereal is a sign (9)

Hi tyke, as I went through all the signs I did hover briefly over Capricorn, but moved on in the absence of cereal!

Not knowing the number of letters ( in the `skeleton` ) is bad enough but not having a complete clue is worse! I do the skeleton mainly because my family have always done it.

Doing the skeleton is probably a much more worthwhile pastime than aimlessly writing clues because someone pinged you a word three times a week ;-)

I enjoy the competitions, they`ve been a big help during this never-ending Covid situation. Sometimes I think it`s a shame that so much effort goes unappreciated though!

Need to start compiling whole crosswords … unless you do already. That’s when you start getting appreciated!
