Four queries re. parsing. I think I know the answers but can't quite parse them to my satisfaction.
2D) Like a chat perhaps with Gill, not the first (5) A?I?E.
If the answer is AVINE, then why have they written gill (ground ivy/vine) with a capital letter? Why, "not the first"?
5D) Age about 49, say - and still going strong (5) A?I?E. Think the answer is AG(IL)E but agile doesn't mean strong.
18A) Broadcast of Grimm's yarns (7) C?E?E?S. I think the answer is CREWELS (yarns) but I don't understand "Broadcast of Grimm's" part of the clue.
22A) English king, bloodstained, fell (5) E?R?D. I think the answer might be E+R+RED (ERRED) but erred does not mean fell.
Thank you in advance. Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree with my warped logic?
