I'd be glad of help with my last two:

There are several obvious words, none of which I can fit to the clue!

John, perhaps, is 3 (5)
B ? G ? S
If "3" is a cross-reference to the answer "sham" then the answer might be "bogus" - but then where does the "U" come from?

Award = OBE reversed/rejected around M(ember) abbr. is in Chambers

Passed on = DIED

John is a Bog (toilet) in the US! It's not used much here, I think.
