Mattrom @26, this sounds like a brilliant clue but I can’t quite get the full parsing, could you please assist? Thanks!

I think it's say=E.G., reversed (nosedive) after PA (personal assistant) holding ASS (sex, U.S. usage = in the White House).

Nosedive works for a down clue, its eems to me

Opening for assistants to some scientists (7)

Jono, actually a specific Jean-Pierre did come to mind, but it was someone I worked with in Paris 35 years ago, so probably not the same one as you!
