[I'm sure unintentionally, this has turned into a rather controversial definition!]

My piano is rarely in tune and due to the vagaries of operation seldom on key ;-)

Thank you all for some wonderfully imaginative interpretations of a word that was fairly simple, but had quite a variety of definitions. Halfway through, it looked we might be heading for a 15-way tie at the top, which would have been a nightmare for the host (worse than Clueless!), but, despite the slight controversy, I am going with the democratic process and declare that in second place with two votes is jono @4 (this might also be a bit controversial, as I am not sure that k = £1,000 … simply “a thousand” might have been more accurate). Anyway, the winner with 3 votes is buddy @7:

Musician at first in tune with fiddle (6)

Congratulations, buddy, here are your prizes:

I have always thought it would be very useful to have a tail.

I was also planning to commemorate Mike Nesmith RIP, but mprs @28, and then geeker @58, beat me to it. I love the way he strums nonchalantly through his tie, totally unfazed, during the first half of the video!

If all else fails, silence is always a good fall-back option …
