7d Indicator by the way in initial letters. Ans must be signpost which is an indicator but can't see how "by the way in initial letters" works. Did think that "indicator by the way" might be the signpost but if so it surely it would be "of the way" but anyway can't see the "in initial letters" part.

sign - initial perhaps
post = letters for sure

I think the definition is "indicator by the way with "initial" meaning 'sign' as in the bottom of a document + "post" as 'letters' as in mail.
