15a) A famous novel. But what's the theme word for this one?

17 it’s a single letter recipe, then a type of garlic sauce (a bit like a garlic mayo) around the starter of veal.

15ac it’s the first 5 letters, pretty obscure!

Is 5d a single entity? I've only heard of its parts.

5d is a region (usually has South before )

Thank you to Picaroon - I really enjoyed this one. It took me a while to get going but then it all fell into place. FOI: 10ac. LOI: 19d. CoD: 11a (a favourite!) Fun crossword that kept me occupied for much of a train journey from London to Sheffield. About to change trains and head up and into the snow!

Collins Dictionary : part of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of C**** divided by Taiwan into the East C**** S** in the north and the South C*** S** in the south.

Great crossword again from Picaroon, loads of great clues. I found it very difficult at first, a real struggle to finish, but got there in the end. FOI 8a, LOI 24d. Many COD contenders, I’ll go for 19d, but could have picked many others.
Can anyone tell me what Pierre has to do with 24d?

Davel, Pierre is French so perhaps he’s slow?
