For those who enjoyed yesterday's Inquisitor, today's EV might continue the fun. It was a fine, well-crafted crossword.

PS I tend not to mention the level of difficulty, that view varies from solver to solver!

Thanks Malone, I've got the group members and where they met but, before I go on, can I get a parse for ....

17a - Queen plunges into cold water and starts again (6)

I have the answer but cannot parse a single letter of it!

25d - Shilling not pence for smoke in LA, it’s remarkable (6) ?ASSER

If "shilling" is indicating that it begins with S then I can't see what word it could be?

Not a puzzle I do, but looks like “gasser”. Modify “gasper”. The LA refers to where it’s remarkable

Brendan, it doesn't begin with S. You need an old word, a bit slangy, for a cigarette - and the S/P swap happens inside that. The final answer is definitely US usage and is in Chambers.
