Paul..., I too sighed at the 'deb' reference. I had an even bigger sigh (well, an outright moan) at a clue in the Sunday Times cryptic....

16 A. Long fish delivered in Billingsgate (4).

As it's in today's paper, I wouldn't want the giving of the answer to spoil anyone's solving.

I rather like that one Malone. A company I used to work for bought the old Billingsgate building when the fish market moved to its new location in docklands. What they hadn’t realised was that decades of frozen fish had created an effective permafrost under the building which after a few months started to melt sinking the floors and making the whole place uninhabitable. I’m not sure what the building is now but it still has the original fish wind vanes

THanks, Jono. I often feel there's an air of laziness about these East End-type clues - and most of the claimed expressions, ways of pronouncing things, are nowhere near as prevalent as setters make out!
