Well, I've stared and stared at 39 but nothing's happened, although I have the first three letters from crossers. A nudge please, maybe with definition?

There's a clash in the entry. The answer is a Malay word for "sir" and the extra letter is in the second word of the clue.

This is a wonderful puzzle.

Yes, Loge, I too thought this was a great, clever puzzle (and Brendan will be happy to be doing some colouring in!).

THanks loge. Fabulous puzzle construction - even if the theme was very obvious.

Hi Malone,

Yes, more than happy with this one (93 cells!) and I've still got the EV (43) to do - my pens are getting a real workout this weekend 😜

PS I coloured the 2 columns in the Listener as well, even though it didn't ask us to - I just couldn't resist it 😃

I'm nearly done and agree, very nice puzzle.
But I can't see 22d, the salt one; or 19d - the answer is in Collins dictionary one! Help, thanks!

22d defn is a chemical salt...1st 5 letters are the great intellectual + A (initially Added) + Te ...the A of Tea is extra i think..

19d P is extra in pare...try =test + a(are) gives the hard shell/case

Thanks bunty, got both of those now.
Just one letter missing now in each of the two unclueds.
But I'll ponder on, it's only Sunday! Guess I'll see them eventually.
Back to Listener, which looks tougher.

Thanks Nelson. I had a letter wrong. Then I realised what they were.
