Mattrom, you make a good point re ‘for’; ‘…pay cut before work on river’ might have been better. I also thought of ‘river flowing east and west’ for poop, but didn’t use it.

Thanks, Spike for the challenge and the clips. I found it a tricky word to clue, and have a page of rejects. That's not to say that all words have to be easy, of course. I imagine you had a clue or two in your own mind.
